The Central Virginia Battlefields Trust is pleased to announce our 2017 Annual Meeting weekend. A feature packed three day event is planned with exciting battlefield tours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Saturday's trip, "On to Richmond and the James River", will include visits to Drewry's Bluff, City Point, Tredegar, and Hollywood Cemetery. Lunch will be held at the headquarters for Major General Benjamin "Beast" Butler during the "Bermuda Hundred" campaign.

Our Saturday evening banquet and meeting will feature CVBT's key note speaker Gordon C. Rhea presenting on the topic of his new book, the 5th and final volume in his series covering the Overland Campaign, entitled "On to Petersburg - Grant and Lee June 4-15, 1864". Gordon's presentation will cover the operations from June 4th the day after the main attack at Cold Harbor through June 15th, when Grant launches his abortive assault to take Petersburg.

Gordon's new book will be available August 2017.

Friday and Sunday Battlefield Tours Include:

NPS historian Greg Mertz will guide us through the Battle of Cedar Mountain the September 1862 contest between Confederate forces under Major General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson and elements of the Union Army.
Historian Clark "Bud" Hall will guide us on the nearby Brandy Station battlefield. Bud is noted as the expert on Brandy Station and has played a lead role in its preservation. This June 1863 reconnaissance-in-force by Union cavalry and infantry was the largest cavalry engagement ever fought in the western hemisphere.

Historian Chris Mackowski will be our guide for a look at the abortive Mine Run campaign of November 1863 which will harden the high Union command's dissatisfaction with Major General George Gordon Meade's leadership.
